Rugged test connectors
To compliment our machines and testing solutions we offer rugged connectors designed for your specific application.
We take a different stance to how a rugged connector should be designed unlike other manufacturers - we know that often the rugged connector can be the point of failed testing or how lead times to replace items can cause issues and whilst we are happy to produce nylon machined components we like to offer 3D printed solutions.
Rugged connectors
Traditionally rugged connectors are made from machined nylon, sometimes Delrin as to hold good tolerances with the small machining that is required.
The body is normally split into several sections with an ergonomic body, head with a clip which is typically a non ferrous material such as aluminum or brass
The design of the rugged connector requires special attention to provide a good life but also to ensure the fit, function and to reduce the possibility to reduce damage to the connector it is being mated too.
If required we will provide a traditional connectors however we tend to take a different approach with the mindset that the connectors do wear and through heavy use we find that they are damaged by the operator dropping or heavy use - one of our most successful connector designs and fastest is to 3D print the connector in solid nylon / carbon filled nylon depending on the needs, this allows us to quickly print, test but also helps to reduce costs allowing you to potentially hold spares or worst case on dammage or model uplifts quicky change the connector
With both 3D printed & machined nylon connectors we still use gold contact spring probes with 80% compression and a 20% overshoot which we find give good contact force
When wiring a rugged connector we offer several options with our favorite to place a connector at the rear of the rugged connector allowing a quick change without having to change out the harness
Our rugged connectors can be hard wired with a choice of parking ferrules, different braid or wire protection which is always application dependant.
Rugged connectors can be paired to an auto docking system or incorporated with our etest systems or robots
Electrical Harness
We design the harness to suit the installation. We use either a flexible multicore or singles in braid or conduit deepening on the challenge.
Each harness is provided with a full electrical drawing.
